mL per Hour Calculator
Two calculations in one: the pump rate in mL/hr, or how long an infusion will run at a given rate.
Formulas
- mL/hr = volume (mL) ÷ time (hr)
- time (hr) = volume (mL) ÷ rate (mL/hr)
Worked example: 1,000 mL over 8 hours = 125 mL/hr. At 125 mL/hr, 250 mL takes 2 hours.

FAQ
How do I calculate mL per hour?
mL/hr = total volume (mL) ÷ total time (hours). For minutes: mL/hr = volume ÷ minutes × 60.
How long will an infusion take?
Time (hours) = volume (mL) ÷ rate (mL/hr). Example: 500 mL at 125 mL/hr takes 4 hours.
How do I convert mL/hr to drops per minute?
gtt/min = mL/hr × drop factor (gtt/mL) ÷ 60. See the IV drip rate calculator.
Should mL/hr be rounded?
Many pumps accept one decimal place; some require whole numbers. Follow the pump and your facility policy.
